An employer’s codebook is the reliable starting point for internal labels. Similar letters can mean different things at different workplaces.

Identify an unfamiliar entry

  1. Copy the code exactly and record the pay date.
  2. Check whether it sits under earnings, employee deductions, employer contributions or memo information.
  3. Match it to a benefits election, time record, legal order, loan or adjustment.
  4. Ask payroll for the full description, calculation and tax treatment.

A glossary can explain a possible interpretation, but it cannot prove what your employer assigned to the code. Never infer a tax exemption, coverage entitlement or permission to deduct wages solely from an abbreviation.

Keep the query specific

For example: “What does this code represent on my 13 September statement, does it change net pay, and which dates and calculation produced the amount?” Share documents only through your employer’s approved secure channel.
