Time and money need separate checks

An opening leave bank of 32 hours plus four accrued hours minus eight used hours leaves 28 hours. Those eight hours may also appear as paid leave in the earnings section. Do not add a balance to current wages or count the same absence twice.

Protected leave and paid leave

Qualifying FMLA leave is generally unpaid and job-protected. An employer’s paid sick or parental leave can run at the same time. A disability insurer or state programme may pay separately, while the employer provides a top-up.

Exempt and nonexempt suffixes often distinguish wage-and-hour classifications or payroll groups. They do not establish tax exemptions. For severance or final vacation payments, use the agreement and applicable law to establish the entitlement, then reconcile the gross payment and withholding.
